Mini books of Anatoly Konenko

Yesterday, I received the smallest book of those that I have ever hold in my hands, which is entitled as "Secrets of impossible figures". The dimensions of the book are 3x5 cm. You can compare it's size with a 1 euro coin on the photo above. The book is filled of images of impossible figures. It was published in very limited edition, only 30 copies.

The author of the book is Anatoly Konenko from Omsk (Russia). He is famous for his mini and micro works. He began to create mini and micro artworks since 1981. He invented technology of writing on rice and poppy grains and later on human hair. He have done many micro works in various styles - graphics, sculpture, carving on wood and bones, juvellery and knitting.

The field, in which Konenko is well known, is creating and publishing of mini books. He have done more than 200 mini books since 1994. All his books have high quality binding and inimitable elegant ornaments and decorations. With the publication of his books Anatoly Konenko is an artist, designer, engraver and bookbinder at the same time.

In 1996 he created the smallest book the world with sizes 0,9 x 0,9 mm, which was signed in the Guinness book. The photo of the book you can see below.

Wood work by Hans de Koning

Today I received a postage with wood work by Hans de Koning (see above). The shapes of the most of his works are based on impossible figures. His works are flat, but he uses different kinds of wood to make three-dimensional effect. Wood planks with different hues imitate sides slope and opacity of the impossible figure.

Triangle vortex

A nice rendering of triangle vortex was found at forum WooYah, which was created by member Heidi. This image is interesting by shapes of triangles, which look like Penrose tribar, but they are not. If looking attentively we see that these triangles are more distorted than classic Penrose triangle. So these figures cannot be named 'impossible' because they don't make sense possible figure. It sounds paradoxically, but all impossible figures makes sense common possible object at first glance.

Yesterday, I received a pack with artworks by Jos de Mey. Above you can see the latest artwork by him. As usual, there's impossible figure on his artwork. He is my favorite artist in the field of impossible art.

Cubic houses in Rotterdam

A set of innovating houses was built in 1984 on Overblaak Street in Rotterdam in The Netherlands. These houses have shape of cube which were tilted to 45 degrees. The composition consists of 32 cubes, all attached to each other. The houses contain three floors.

This set of buildings was designed by architect Piet Blom. He is best known for his 'Kubuswonigen' buildings built in Helmond and Rotterdam.

Cube houses have interecting feature. They looks like impossible figure from bird's-eye view as it seen in Google Maps. Special covered roofs of cubes looks like snow-covered mountain peaks.

Today I received a postage card from Belgian artist Jos de Mey. As typical for him there's impossible construction at the drawing and owl sitting on the construction.

Impossible triangle in Perth

A 13,5 metres aluminium sculpture of impossible triangle was erected in Perth (Australia) in 1999. It's the biggest sculpture of impossible figure in the world. Many people who live near the sculpture do not suspect that it represents impossible figure because it looks like impossible object from single point of view only.

You can see it at Google maps in the center of the round about. You can clearly see the arms of the triangle going off in different directions.
